In the past I rarely checked under Poplar trees – even though there are some MASSIVE white poplars (P.alba) all around the Dandenongs. After chatting with some others who had found these in Australia – although they seem very rare – and after looking under a couple of hundred White Poplars I was truly wrapped to find these beautiful boletes.
I left the majority of these for another person, but picked 5 for dinner, DNA and an innoculating slurry for local Poplar.
Flavour – seriously above Porcini in my opinion – like porcini mixed with pork.
