An interesting find in Selby recently was the Australian wild equivalent of the often cultivated enoki (more finds documented in our 2018 article) / enokitake mushroom – here growing on rotting Poplar branches and stumps.
DNA results have confirmed that this is the same species as that collected and referred to in Europe and North America as the Velvet Shank – the wild version of the white enoki mushroom available in most supermarkets.
Interestingly, Bruce Fuhrer describes this species as edible in his guidebook.
Clones are clearly fruiters:
When you say clones will be taken, do you mean spore prints and then a culture or something fancy in a lab with whitecoats and such getup?
haha No it means we take a tissue sample and try to clean it up and grow it out on agar.
