A very rare find growing near White Poplar (Populus alba) and having the nicest flavour of just about any mushroom I have tried (not classically bolete in flavour but like strong pork) was this amazing find by Csilla Me in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. The flesh stained grey black on cutting and it appears quite different to another red-capped Leccinum that Hans Pea dropped over for sequencing.
Very cool find! And seemingly quite rare here in Australia although a few do pop up in NSW and a few other locations.
Hans was also nice enough to drop over a specimen of Victorian porcini from another, new location as they slowly spread throughout Vic.
All of these are off for sequencing and I will update this post with further info.
