A couple of quick updates from this year’s mushroom season – which was a fantastic one especially if you like Lepista nuda – although lockdown rules and the state of the world limited it to an extent for many.
Firstly we received many reports of Boletus edulis appearing around the state of Victoria – in four distinct regions which is exciting. Shane Brew got his hands on these in a secret Victoria location:
Meanwhile in NSW Symon Beck managed to find so many Black Trumpet (Craterellus species) that he considered starting a brass band. These are awaiting DNA results and they tasted the BEST! Thanks Symon!! (Photos by Symon Beck):
Beautiful Porcini I wish I could find them here in Queensland, Gympie region. They look scrumptious!
There is a tropical variety believe it or not
When can these be cultivated in Australia
Both are mycorrhizal or at least ectomycorrhizal which means they grow symbiotically with trees – and makes it very difficult to cultivate them.
