An interesting native Armillaria species we often see is Armillaria luteobubalina. A very common mushroom on old stumps around the Dandenongs, documented in our 2018 season update and Victoria in general in the coldest parts of winter (usually), we were informed fairly recently that families have been eating these since at least the 1950s assuming they actually were European Honey Mushrooms.
Some describe this mushroom as the best edible in Australia – some suggesting it needs to be boiled, while others just a firm cook in high heat. As it is so common here, its well worth keeping an eye out for

Looks very much like the mycelium that had an enormous flush of mushrooms(decaying into a black soup) that’s been responsible for destroying my surrounding shrubs & trees.
Yes it can be as aggressive as Armillaria mellea in the states. Living trees as well as decomposing are at risk.
